‘We are dependent on the SIR process to hold elections. They have to complete the SIR process, notify the new electoral rolls, based on which we need to redraw the electoral rolls for the GBA area,’ the Minister said.
Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the timeline for holding the much-delayed civic polls in Bengaluru will depend on the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls process . He was speaking at #THTalksBengaluru, The Hindu’s interactive programme, through which he addressed questions from readers on Thursday.
“We are dependent on the SIR process to hold elections. They have to complete the SIR process, notify the new electoral rolls, based on which we need to redraw the electoral rolls for the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) area. As we know, the deadline for SIR has been extended twice. We have told the Supreme Court the same thing,” he said.
As per the original schedule, the SIR process was supposed to be completed by October 7. The deadlines for the enumeration phase have been extended twice since then and now, the SIR process is expected to be completed by October 27.
The Supreme Court has recently set a deadline of December 31, 2026, for holding the civic polls in Bengaluru, after extending it twice this year from the earlier set deadlines of June 30 and August 31.
“Our government is committed to holding the civic polls in the city and we will hold it after the completion of the SIR process,” the minister said.
