Two passengers, smuggling gold powder from Thailand in their customised trousers, were intercepted by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Thursday morning before they boarded a domestic flight to Ahmedabad.
Laxmana Devadiga and Raghavendra Devadiga arrived by an Indigo flight from Bangkok at 10:15am and exited Terminal 2 (T2) without coming the scanner of Customs or DRI officials. They arrived at Terminal 1 (T1) and were all set to board the 1:35pm Indigo flight to Ahmedabad when they ran out of luck at the security screening checkpoint.
The CISF team noticed the two displayed abnormal behaviour before walking past the metal detector. Both passengers were frisked by CISF sub-inspector Deepak Kumar Mishra and subsequently taken to a different room where two packets containing gold-like metal in powdered form were recovered from the waist-level portion of their trousers.
The search and recovery operation was carried out under the supervision of deputy inspector general and chief airport security officer (CASO) H Manjunath and T1 commandant Ravi Kumar Sharma.
Following the detection, both passengers were offloaded from the flight they were about to take and handed over to KIA police.
