Nagpur : In a major breakthrough, the Nagpur Crime Branch has cracked a high-value house burglary in Kapil Nagar and arrested four members of an alleged theft syndicate accused of decamping with gold, silver and cash worth several lakhs from a locked house. One accused remains absconding.
Police have recovered stolen property worth approximately Rs 19.65 lakh, including gold and silver ornaments, cash, a two-wheeler, mobile phones, bank documents and property papers. Investigators have also uncovered that a portion of the stolen gold was allegedly sold to purchase a plot of land and a Hyundai Verna car.
The burglary took place in Dixit Nagar under the jurisdiction of Kapil Nagar Police Station. According to police, the homeowner had locked the house and gone out of town with family members. Taking advantage of the house being vacant, the accused allegedly broke open the main door and entered the premises.
Police said the burglars escaped with around 84 tolas of gold ornaments, 900 grams of silver ornaments and cash, causing substantial financial loss to the family.
Following the registration of the offence, Crime Branch Unit-VI launched a parallel investigation. Acting on technical inputs, CCTV footage and confidential information, investigators traced the suspects and questioned them, eventually unravelling the entire conspiracy behind the burglary.
The arrested accused have been identified as Kishore Karwade, Aryan Meshram, Santosh Dhamgaye and Sangeeta Karwade. Another accused, Fardeen Sheikh, is absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.
During the investigation, police discovered that Kishore Karwade allegedly handed over the stolen ornaments to his mother, Sangeeta Karwade, after the burglary. Investigators further found that part of the stolen gold had allegedly been sold and the proceeds were used to purchase a plot of land and a Hyundai Verna car in an attempt to convert the stolen property into legitimate assets.
Police have seized documents relating to both the plot and the car as part of the investigation.
The recovery made from the accused includes 14 tolas of gold ornaments, silver ornaments, Rs 1.70 lakh in cash, a two-wheeler, four mobile phones, bank passbooks and documents relating to the plot and the Hyundai Verna. The total value of the recovered property is estimated at Rs 19.65 lakh.
Following their arrest, the accused were handed over to Kapil Nagar Police for further investigation and legal proceedings. Police are continuing the probe to recover the remaining stolen property and to apprehend the absconding accused, Fardeen Sheikh.
