Nagpur: The Crime Branch’s Anti-Chain Snatching Squad has cracked a robbery case on the Ram Jhula bridge in the Ganeshpeth area within 48 hours, arresting four persons allegedly involved in forcibly snatching a passenger’s mobile phone and cash.
The police have recovered two mobile phones and cash from the accused.
According to police, the complainant was travelling towards the railway station two days ago to board a train to Madhya Pradesh. When he reached Ram Jhula, the accused allegedly intercepted him, threatened him and forcibly took away his mobile phone and cash before fleeing the spot.
A case was subsequently registered at the Ganeshpeth police station.
Following the incident, the Crime Branch’s Anti-Chain Snatching Squad launched a parallel investigation. Acting on a tip-off, the team traced the suspects and detained four persons within 48 hours. During questioning, the accused reportedly admitted their involvement in the crime, police said.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vinod alias Michael Garjesh Malakar, Kanhaiya Malakar and Rahul alias Pagla Malakar, along with another accused whose identity was not disclosed.
Police said Vinod alias Michael has several previous cases registered against him at the Ganeshpeth police station under various sections and preventive action had also been initiated against him in the past.
After undergoing medical examination, all four accused were handed over to the Ganeshpeth police for further legal action. The police are investigating whether the accused were involved in any other similar offences in the area.
