Extortion emails sent in Bishnoi gang’s name: Nagpur man, daughter in Canada get Rs 10 lakh threat

Nagpur: A 60-year-old man from Surve Nagar in Nagpur and his daughter, who works for a private company in Canada, allegedly received extortion emails sent in the name of the Bishnoi gang. The sender demanded Rs 10 lakh and threatened to kill both of them if the money was not paid.

The complainant lives under the jurisdiction of Pratap Nagar Police Station, while his daughter has been residing and working in Canada.

According to police, the daughter checked her email on Monday evening and found a threatening message claiming to be from the Bishnoi gang. The email demanded Rs 10 lakh and warned that she and her father would be killed if they failed to pay the amount.

Shocked by the threat, the woman immediately contacted her father in Nagpur. During their conversation, the father informed her that he had also received a similar email carrying the same demand and death threat.

Realising that both had been targeted, the father and daughter approached Pratap Nagar Police Station on Tuesday morning and lodged a complaint.

Following the complaint, Pratap Nagar police initiated the process of registering a case and referred the matter to the Cyber Police for technical investigation.

Cyber Police have begun efforts to trace the origin of the emails by examining digital evidence, including email headers and other electronic footprints, to identify the sender.

Police are also trying to ascertain whether the emails were actually sent by members of the Bishnoi gang or whether someone misused the gang’s name to intimidate the victims and extort money.

The use of the Bishnoi gang’s name has raised concern among law enforcement agencies, as the gang has previously been linked to extortion threats against several prominent personalities, including politicians and film actors, in different parts of the country.
