Chikkaballapura Rural police seized over six metric tonnes (MT) of beef being smuggled across state borders in two goods vehicles during an early-morning operation near Manchenahalli.
Police received a call on emergency helpline 112 around 6am Wednesday, saying a shipment of beef was being transported from Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh toward Bengaluru. Volunteers from local cow protection groups tracked the movement of the vehicles and shared real-time location updates with police.
A team led by sub-inspector Harish checked the two vehicles near Manchenahalli and found the meat packed in gunny bags and concealed beneath crates of tomatoes and bags of chillies in an attempt to evade border checks.
One truck driver, Moula, was arrested and the other escaped. Superintendent of police Kushal Chousky confirmed the seizure and said the beef was to be distributed in Bengaluru.
